Reading:
Reading in the fourth grade goes beyond the fundamentals of reading and dives into the strategies readers will need to gather important information within text. By using the districts adopted Daybooks, we will learn questioning, predicting, and inferring skills, just to name a few. Students will be allowed to "mark up the text" in their workbook in an effort to make them more comfortable “digging in” to find important information.
During each trimester, students will be given an independent Accelerated Reader goal to reach. Their personal goal is based on the results of the S.T.A.R. reading assessment that they complete at the beginning of each trimester. Students will be given limited time to read in the classroom, most of their independent reading is expected to be completed at home and documented on their weekly homework packet.
Please talk to your child about the books that they are reading. It is important that they are able to recall characters, main ideas or themes and the order of events in their stories.
